"Give this Nation a tax code that is pro-growth, easy to
understand, and fair to all..."
President George W. Bush To build the prosperity of future generations, we must update institutions that were created to meet the needs of an earlier time. Year after year, Americans are burdened by an archaic, incoherent federal tax code. I have appointed a bipartisan panel to examine the tax code from top to bottom. And when their recommendations are delivered, you and I will work together to give this Nation a tax code that is pro-growth, easy to understand, and fair to all. Tax Reform Background The current tax code unfairly burdens average working Americans. It is time to replace it with a system which promotes economic growth and job creation. In January, President Bush appointed a bipartisan commission to make recommendations to Congress later this year for overhauling the tax code. The members of this bipartisan commission are universally recognized for both their political experience and economic expertise.
President Bush’s appointment of
such a well-respected, bipartisan commission proves that he is committed
to actually getting something done and reforming the tax code in a fair
and non-partisan manner. At the very least, Congress must make the
recent tax cuts permanent and ensure that the federal government creates
incentives for people to save and invest.
